I finished this book ages ago including the sequel: Rumours.

This book is about Elizabeth Holland, a luxe girl in 1899 New York and her scandalous antics as well as her so-called best friend, Penople & her younger sister, Diana. Elizabeth is in love with the coachman who wants to run away with her. One Problem – she is engaged to Henry Schnoonmaker, a young drop dead gorgeous bachelor who Penople loves and has kissed Diana. How can Elizabeth be happy and avoid the unwanted wedding?

I love this book. It is well written & has a great description for anyone who is into love novels & fashion or are a bit of girl. People have said that it’s bad for teenagers to read books where the characters freely have sex etc. I’m 14 & to be honest, girls like me don’t notice that. I, myself like romance novels that have a girl main character. So…really that’s a load of rubbish. I knew that they were having sex or whatever but it didn’t really affect me. I know that’s not going to happen if I let it, anyway. You could say that about younger books with violence like The Roman Mysteries. There is a lots of killing in that at a 9-12 audience so…does that give a bad impression on killing? No.

Great book. Recommend to any girl.

Rumours: CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST BOOK!

Now that Elizabeth has ‘disappeared’, rumours continue to fly. Is Elizabeth actually alive? Was she kidnapped – No-one knows except 3 high society citizens. Penople & Diana are back to try and win Henry’s heart. But Henry had plans of his own as he discovers Elizabeth’s mysterious death. The Hollands old maid has made it to her dream. To be a Luxe girl. But as she finds out, money is good but gossip is everything.

Another good book in the Luxe series. It doesn’t matter about reading the first book that much about from Elizabeth’s death. I think Godberson could have not described the characters again but it was a good reminder. The ending is very dramatic like the last one. It is very surprising so watch out for that one. Can’t wait for the next one, Envy.
